Lunch Talk Series - NATURE & ART FOR TRAVELLERS by Mr. Vincent Wong

NATURE & ART FOR TRAVELLERS by Mr. Vincent WONG
Travel allows people to meet with nature. For most this is deeply enjoyable, but for the artistically inclined, it is call to action. Nature has profoundly influenced the development of Art throughout history, serving as both a muse and a medium for creative expression. Artists have long drawn inspiration from nature capturing their beauty, complexity and emotional resonance in many different forms. By reflecting humanity's connection to the environment, art continues to celebrate and preserve the wonders of nature. This talk attempts to explain how nature in the forms of plants, animals and rocks influence the development of decorative art, paintings and architecture through time, using examples from different parts of the world, including creations by famous artists and architects. It also attempts to explain how Art Deco took the raw forms of the natural world and refined them into a powerful, graphic language that symbolized the optimism, luxury and technological progress of the early 20th century. Hopefully this study can enhance our appreciation of nature and help us to protect it.
